"In Loving Memory of Lon Brannies"
Long time Yamaha employee and audio industry veteran Lon Brannies passed away on April 18 after a long illness. Lon spent 27 years with Yamaha and held two positions during his tenure. He was initially hired as a professional audio District Manager covering the southern region of the U.S. and named Yamaha Commercial Audio Salesperson of the Year in 2001 for the Yamaha Pro Audio & Combo Division.
Continuing his role as District Manager for the newly formed Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. in 2007, Brannies became a Consultant Marketing Manager. In 2008 he went back to college and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing. A recognized industry veteran for over 39 years, Brannies penned numerous audio articles, spoke at and contributed to panel discussions, and attended most trade exhibitions including AES, NAB, NSCA and InfoComm.
“Our heartfelt sympathy is extended to Lon’s wife Mary, son, daughter and two granddaughters,” states Larry Italia, Vice President/General Manager, Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems, Inc. “Lon was extremely instrumental to our success and very dedicated to his customers within the commercial audio market. A true Texas gentleman, Lon had many friends within the industry who, along with all of his family here at Yamaha, will remember his deep, hearty Texas laugh. We will miss him.”
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 10:30 am at the Memorial Drive Methodist Church in Houston,Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Lon Brannies to the H.E.A.R. Organization.

Founded in 1988 with the help of Pete Townshend from the Who, H.E.A.R., Hearing Education and Awareness for Rockers is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit hearing health organization dedicated to the prevention of hearing loss and tinnitus from loud music. Serving musicians, sound engineers, students, music and sound arts students, music educators, other music industry professionals and all music fans through education, grassroots advocacy and nonprofit hearing health services.
With support from the music industry, medical industry, foundations and individual donors, H.E.A.R. is helping to raise awareness of the real dangers of repeated exposure to excessive noise levels from music.
The H.E.A.R. Partners program is a national network of hearing professionals and music industry professionals who support H.E.A.R.’s mission.
H.E.A.R. delivers information on hearing damage; provides hearing services and referrals; distributes hearing protection at music events, schools, music camps; launches national public service hearing loss prevention campaigns and Listen Smart DVD hearing education programs.
In addition to distributing information, H.E.A.R. conducts free hearing screening clinics in the San Francisco Bay Area. H.E.A.R. provides a HEAR Partners Audiolgist refferral network on www.hearnet.com.
In 1989, Kathy Peck, Executive Director and Co-founder of H.E.A.R. received The National Leadership Award from The National Council on Hearing loss and Other Communicative Disorders, Washington, DC.
